Services of Jene Wah
Seniors and new immigrants who need assistance in managing their social, government and medical service needs receive help from the Chinese/English bilingual full time staff. The mission of the program is to help isolated or at-risk seniors maintain their independence in their own home.
Jene Wah Senior Service Center
The Jene Wah center is open 5 days a week Monday through Friday 8 am till 4:30 pm. At the center the seniors engage in a variety of activities to keep them active and entertained. Exercise classes, a choir, and card games are offered. Please call center for holiday hours: 209-463-7654
Nutrition Program
A hot Asian style lunch is cooked on the premises of Jene Wah in a commercial kitchen and served at 11:30 five days a week Monday through Friday at 11:30 am.
Bilingual Translation
Full time staff support at-risk seniors who encounter language barriers to the social, government and medical services available to help them remain in their homes. Staff can help access the appropriate community services to improve their quality of life. Jene Wah collaborates with federal and state programs and participates with tax preparations, census intake and immigration services.
Education
Jene Wah offers bilingual nutrition, health and medical lectures and discussions with the seniors from dietitians and health care professionals. When laws are passed that may impact the seniors, meetings are held to educate the seniors to help them better understand the impact laws may have on their lives. Jene Wah also provides citizenship and ESL classes and holds bilingual Food Preparation Safety classes for Ca. State Certification.
Wellness Program
Through grants received from the San Joaquin County Department of Aging home bound and elderly seniors can apply for Homemaker and Personal care services. Staff provide light housekeeping and personal care services. Please call center for availability 209-463-7654.
